Limits and verification

Fails with descriptive line and column diagnostics when encountering unquoted object keys, single-quoted strings (in strict JSON mode), trailing commas (in RFC 8259 mode), or unescaped ASCII control codes (0x00 through 0x1F). Objects with circular self-references are intercepted by identity tracking sets before serialization begins. Input size is bounded by browser memory (typically 50-100 MB).

Examples demonstrate an expected workflow; they do not prove every input or every branch of an external specification. Check important results with an independent source before using them for money, security, compliance, safety, or irreversible file changes.

Browser processing boundary

Tool input is processed by code running in the browser and is not intentionally sent to a CZOA processing API. The page can still request ordinary site assets, analytics, or advertising when those services are enabled. Browser extensions and managed-device software remain outside this tool's control.

Frequently asked questions

How does jq Simulator evaluate an expression?+

It parses strict interchange JSON, returns the whole value for an empty expression or `.`, and otherwise passes dotted path segments to evaluatePath. A `|` expression runs each trimmed part from left to right over the preceding result.

What does the dotted selector return?+

For `{"user":{"name":"Ada"}}` with `.user.name`, the page returns JSON string `"Ada"`. It selects the nested member; that result does not represent the full jq language.

How are array results presented?+

When the evaluated result is an array and the expression ends in `[]`, it serializes each member as JSON on its own line. Other successful results are serialized once; malformed JSON or a nonmatching path errors.

What jq features are outside scope?+

This is a bounded selector simulator. It does not promise jq filters, variables, functions, arithmetic, object construction, streaming, module loading, shell integration, or compatibility with every jq expression.
