BBCode to Markdown & HTML
BBCode to Markdown & HTML: Maps BBCode tags ([b], [i], [url], [code], [img]) to corresponding Markdown elements.
About this bbcode to markdown & html
BBCode to Markdown & HTML — browser-based utility.
How this tool works
Uses regular-expression replacements for paired [b], [i], [url=...] tags and [br]. It outputs Markdown-like text only and does not support [code], [img], arbitrary nesting, full BBCode parsing, or HTML output.
- Block & Inline Lexical Parsing: Deconstructs raw Markdown into block elements (containers, paragraphs, lists) and inline tokens (links, code, emphasis).
- AST Tree Compilation: Constructs an abstract syntax tree representing document hierarchy and validating balanced tag delimiters.
- Transformation & Stripping: Serializes AST nodes to clean semantic HTML5 markup or strips formatting to yield pure unformatted plain text.
- Sanitization & Preview: Sanitizes HTML output to prevent script injection vulnerabilities and renders responsive visual previews.
Worked example
Scenario: A forum moderator converts legacy BBCode markup into standard Markdown and HTML.
Sample input:
Processing: Maps BBCode tags ([b], [i], [url], [code], [img]) to corresponding Markdown elements.

Limits and verification
HTML script tags and potentially malicious iframe elements in source markdown are sanitized to prevent XSS. Deeply nested lists or blockquotes are bounded to prevent call stack overflows.
Examples demonstrate an expected workflow; they do not prove every input or every branch of an external specification. Check important results with an independent source before using them for money, security, compliance, safety, or irreversible file changes.
Browser processing boundary
Tool input is processed by code running in the browser and is not intentionally sent to a CZOA processing API. The page can still request ordinary site assets, analytics, or advertising when those services are enabled. Browser extensions and managed-device software remain outside this tool's control.

Frequently asked questions
Which BBCode tags does the converter support?+
It replaces paired b tags with double-asterisk Markdown, paired i tags with single asterisks, URL tags with Markdown links, and br or br slash tags with newlines.
What did the browser fixture verify?+
Bold, italic, URL, and br tags rendered as **Bold**, *it*, [X](https://x.test), and a newline before z.
Are tag names case-sensitive?+
No. The supported tag patterns are case-insensitive. Their content is matched non-greedily, but unsupported BBCode syntax is left unchanged.
Does it sanitize or fetch link destinations?+
No. It only transforms matching text. It does not validate, fetch, escape, or sanitize a URL destination, and it does not implement the full BBCode specification.
